$410,000 Filly Leads Successful Wednesday for Classic Empire

Classic Empire saw Hip 317 breeze the co-bullet for a quarter in :20.2 last week and on Wednesday that filly hammered to Donato Lanni for $410,000, one of the most expensive fillies to be sold at the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training so far this week.

The Golden Rock Thoroughbreds offered filly is out of Tigress Tale, a Tale of the Cat half-sister to Grade III winner Stays In Vegas and stakes winner Miss Technicality. The dam of American Pharoah’s four-times placed daughter Mad Maddy, Tigress Tale is also out of a half-sister to Grade I winner Persistently and stakes-placed Award It.

There’s class throughout the family with the juvenile’s fourth dam the champion and top broodmare Heavenly Prize.

“She just repeated what she had been doing the last couple months at the farm where she showed a lot of talent on the dirt,” consigner Keiber Rengifo told Thoroughbred Daily News after her bullet breeze. “So we weren't surprised by the time she did over here at OBS because she was working unbelievably the last couple months. The way she worked today is the way she was training the last 60 days.”

This was one of two 2-year-olds to sell for more than $150,000 at Wednesday’s session for Classic Empire.

The Champion 2-Year-Old’s daughter out of Babcock brought $175,000 from Flurry Racing Stable nearly 200 hips later. A half-sister to stakes-placed Emmeline out of the Uncle Mo daughter Babcock, her granddam is also the dam of Canadian Horse of the Year Uncaptured and multiple stakes winner Dancing Raven in addition to being the granddam of stakes winning Crescentcitypretty.

Classic Empire’s 2-year-olds have been a hit at sales with an average of $145,500 for 14 sold with a $410,000 filly and colt leading the charge.
