$6million Mare to Visit American Pharoah
Champion racemare Stellar Wind will be retired and bred to Triple Crown winner American Pharoah after selling for $6 million to Coolmore's MV Magnier to top Tuesday's opening session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
A five year-old mare by Curlin, Stellar Wind won over $2.2million in winning 10 of 16 starts and was the Champion 3YO Filly of her generation.
Stellar Wind was consigned by Lane's End, agent. Lane's End Director of Sales Allaire Ryan said the mare thrilled everyone who saw her.
"Just spending the last 48 hours with her here, she exuded class and there is no doubt in my mind that is one of the factors that carried her through such a successful career," Ryan said. "She was a true joy to be around for all of us.
"Day in and day out this is our job, but above all everyone here at Keeneland is a racing fan. It is one of those 'pinch me' moments when you get to be around a mare like her. She is just that special for me and all of our staff. Everyone took great pride in presenting her.”
Stellar Wind will be a fitting partner for American Pharoah, who had two weanlings sell on Tuesday.
A filly from Life at Ten made $500,000 when bought by Blue Sky Stables and a colt from Kindle made $400,000 when secured by Cavalier Bloodstock.
The filly from Life at Ten was acquired on behalf of a pinhook partnership that includes McMahon and Hill’s Spruce Lane pinhook partnership
“We bought her for a partnership and we intend to resell her next year,” Brian Graves said.
“We just thought she was a beautifully balanced filly and maybe one of the best in the sale. American Pharoahs have been selling well, and she’s out of a Grade I winner, so we decided to take a shot.”
