Sheidel (Holy Roman Emperor) winning the G3 VRC Sensis Stakes at Flemington

Another Millionaire for Holy Roman

Fresh from siring his 60th stakes-winner in Ireland on Friday with a Listed success at Dundalk for Kadra (3f Holy Roman Emperor x Kadayna, by Dalakhani) , high class shuttler Holy Roman Emperor was also in winning form at Flemington where his brilliant daughter Sheidel (5m Holy Roman Emperor x Laventour, by Metal Storm) captured the Group III VRC Sensis Stakes to become racing’s newest millionaire.

Formerly prepared by David Harrison in WA and now with the Hayes/Dabernig parthership, Sheidel carried the Dorrington Farm colours of Robert Crabtree to yet another well-earned victory.

A brilliant last start winner in Group III company at Caulfield, Sheidel was sent out a heavily backed favourite for this 1100 metre sprint and produced her typically brave performance to return a winner.

She led throughout with Joao Moreira in the saddle and fought off all challengers to win by a short head, her 14th win from 24 starts with earnings topping $1million.

"I'd say she won the race at the start. She was just too fast out," Moreira said.

"I wasn't told to be in front but she was left in front by herself easily and when I asked for her she responded very well, showing off what she's capable of."

Co-trainer David Hayes said Sheidel may be given her chance to live up to his assessment of her as a top-notch sprinter in next Saturday's Group I Darley Classic (1200m).

"I'm really thrilled with her. She's a filly that wins more than she loses and a jockey that wins more than he loses so they were good combination," Hayes said.

"I think she's a Group I filly and she'll probably get her chance at the end of the week to see if she is.
"We'll see how she pulls up. If we're happy with her, we'll certainly look at it."

Sheidel is a half-sister to stakes-winner Latoria and is the best of three winners from ill-fated Laventour, a half-sister by Metal Storm (Fr) to Group III winner Track Jester.
