Cape Helles (Australia) Wins Her Maiden At Carlisle

Australia Beats The Boys For Maiden Win

Cape Helles (3f Australia - Applause, by Danehill Dancer) took a step forward to get off the mark in the nine furlong maiden at Carlisle on Friday.

The Donald McCain-trained bay finished a promising third on debut in March and was one of two fillies to take on the colts on Friday. Chasing the leaders under Graham Lee, she was pushed along approaching the two furlong marker and led a furlong later. Ridden inside the final furlong, she kept on well to deny the favourite by three parts of a length, with the pair drawing four and a half lengths clear of the third.

Owned by TG Leslie and David Redvers, the daughter of Australia is a half-sister to two Stakes performers and the highly-rated Caradoc (Camelot).
