Australia’s Terrific Run Continues In Mooresbridge Stakes
Broome (5c Australia - Sweepstake, by Acclamation) made it three from three this season when justifying favouritism in the Group 2 Coolmore Sottsass Irish EBF Mooresbridge Stakes at the Curragh.
Racing in second for much of the way, Aidan O’Brien’s charge produced his challenge three furlongs from home and led a furlong later. Ridden out by Ryan Moore, the bay kept on well to win by two lengths, with another four and a half lengths back to the third horse.
Speaking after the race, Ryan Moore said, “He's a lovely horse and he's come back very well this year. There is plenty left in there and he kind of played with them to be honest.”
Monday marked five Stakes wins overall for Broome, who was Group 1 placed as a juvenile and finished a close fourth in the Epsom Derby. Owned by M Matsushima, Derrick Smith, Mrs John Magnier and Michael Tabor, the son of Australia was bred by Epona Bloodstock and cost 150,000gns as a yearling.
Broome continues a fantastic run for Australia, with Mare Australis (Australia) having captured the Group 1 Prix Ganay the previous day, while Sir Ron Priestley (Australia) made all to win the Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes on Saturday. He also becomes Australia’s second winner of the Mooresbridge Stakes in as many years, with Leo De Fury (Australia) having won the 2020 renewal by three lengths.
