Best Of Cupid Romps in Debut

It was a second winner in three days for Cupid when Best Of Cupid (2c Cupid x My Names Nicole, by Charismatic) won for fun on debut.

Racing at Hipodromo Camarero over six furlongs, Best of Cupid raced wide in the rear of the main pack down the backstretch. As the field entered the turn, jockey Juan Diaz let the colt roll up on the outside of the field to confront the leader in mid-turn.

That runner had nothing for him and Best of Cupid breezed on by to win by an uncontested five lengths with the third place horse eight lengths behind the winner.

Best of Cupid was a $100,000 2-year-old purchase by racing owner Ervin Rodriguez earlier this year at the OBS Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds and entered training with Eric Betancourt.

Bred by Debra Ann Shehadi in Kentucky, the colt is out of six-time winner My Names Nicole. That mare has produced seven winners from nine to race with a combined 20 wins between them. All but two of the mare’s winners have won at least two races.

My Names Nicole is a half-sister to stakes winner and multiple Group I winner Bobe Bela, who is also the dam of a Group III place runner. The extended family includes Grade I winners Singletary, Next Question, Voodoo Dancer, Pool Play, Engine One, and Cupid’s Grade I winning studmate Echo Town.

Best Of Cupid is the third winner for Grade I winner Cupid, who has seen eight of 11 runners from his first crop hit the board.
