Sottsass Paddock

Blue-Blooded Quintet Represent Sottsass At Book 1

Five beautifully-bred yearlings from the first crop of World Champion Three-Year-Old Sottsass will represent their exciting young sire at the prestigious Tattersalls Book 1 Sale.

Tally-Ho Stud consign Sottsass’s first offering at the three day sale, a homebred half-sister to Group 1 performer Dame Malliott (Lot 126). The January-born chesnut is out of the winning Galileo mare Stars In Your Eyes, who hails from the family of Golden Horn.

European Sales Management offer another sibling of a top-level performer, in the shape of a Sottsass brother to four-time Grade 1 winner Uni (Lot 168). Expectations will be high for the colt, with his dam having sold for €1.25million to Ocean Bloodstock, who bought Sottsass himself as a yearling.

Barry Mahon and Michael Fitzpatrick are regarded as some of the shrewdest operators in the business and so when their JC Bloodstock bought a son of Sottsass for €180,000 last November, the colt entered many notebooks. Fitzpatrick’s Kilminfoyle House Stud will reoffer the half-brother to Stakes winner I’m A Gambler (No Nay Never) as Lot 191 on the second day of trade.

Margaret O’Toole was another highly-regarded judge to invest in Sottsass’s first foals, having bought a pair of Sottsass fillies for €105,000 and 80,000gns apiece. The first to go through the ring at Tattersalls will be consigned by Lynn Lodge Stud as Lot 435 and hails from the family of Konigstiger and Pentire.

O’Toole’s pricier pinhook, reoffered by Glenvale Stud as Lot 504, is out of a half-sister to the top-class Sea Of Class. The dam has produced three Stakes horses to date, including Listed winner and Group 2 performer Mooney Love (Australia).
