Calyx Wins The Coventry Stakes Web

Calyx and Magna Grecia to Coolmore Australia

“We are delighted to welcome two very exciting new sires in Calyx and Magna Grecia to Coolmore Australia,” said nominations and sales manager Colm Santry. “They’re both top-class racehorses from the red-hot Invincible Spirit sire line and are both out of Group winning juveniles. In fact Calyx is the fastest son of Kingman, while Magna Grecia is the only son of Invincible Spirit to be a Group 1 winner at 2 and 3.”

On the racecourse Calyx comfortably beat multiple Group 1 winner Advertise in the Gr.2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot as a 2YO (pictured) and the following season he was just as impressive in the Gr.3 Commonwealth Cup Trial, both over 1200 metres.

Magna Grecia defeated numerous subsequent Group 1 winners in the Gr.1 Vertem Futurity Trophy, then followed up on his 3YO debut by landing the Gr.1 2,000 Guineas in a faster time than Frankel.

“I inspected both horses in Ireland a few months ago and they’re very good-lookers. Both are strong individuals with impressive walks.” Santry add.

Coolmore Australia principal Tom Magnier continued “Calyx and Magna Grecia are two important additions to our stallion roster, as is our record-breaking Everest winner Yes Yes Yes. All three stallions demonstrated exceptional ability at both 2 and 3. We feel very fortunate to be able to offer them to Australian breeders.”

Fees will be announced at a later date.
