Camelot Takes Charge With Maiden Double

Arthur’s Kingdom (2c Camelot - Madeira Mist, by Grand Lodge) completed the first leg of a double for his sire when justifying favoritism in the mile maiden at Gowran Park on Monday.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt had finished second on both his previous starts and was reunited with Donnacha O’Brien to chase the leaders. Ridden into second a furlong and a half from home, he ran on well to lead close home, staying on to win by a length and a half.

The Skymarc Farm-bred bay is expected to improve further, judging by Group 1 entries at the end of this season and into next season. A €260,000 yearling purchase by MV Magnier, Arthur’s Kingdom is closely related to dual Grade 1 winner Joshua Tree (Montjeu).

King Pellinor (3c Camelot - Hitra, by Langfuhr) completed a double for the Ballydoyle team when taking the mile and a half maiden by a length and a half.

Sent off favourite in a similar contest earlier in the year, he was sent off favourite under Donnacha O’Brien and chased the leaders until asserting two furlongs out.

Bred by Joe Hernon in partnership with Grange Stud, King Pellinor was bought as a foal by Camas Park for 85,000gns. He becomes the third winner out of the black-type mare Hitra, who previously produced Listed winner Akemi (Footstepsinthesand).
