Classic Getaway Impresses On Chase Debut
Classic Getaway (6g Getaway - Classic Magic, by Classic Cliché) appears to have a bright future over fences, after the talented hurdler made a smart chase debut at Gowran Park on Saturday.
Bought for £570,000 after winning his point-to-point in taking fashion, the son of Getaway impressed on his sole start in a bumper and went on to win over hurdles last season. Willie Mullins’ charge faced a stiff task on return, with Grade 1 winning stablemate Minella Cocooner (Flemensfirth) heading the market in a race previously won by the likes of Bellshill, Don Poli and Energumene.
Making headway from four out, Classic Getaway improved into second at the penultimate fence and produced a challenge at the last. Soon in front, he was pushed out on the run-in to beat the aforementioned favourite by two lengths and three quarters, with the pair finishing 27 lengths clear of the field.
Speaking after the race, winning rider Danny Mullins said, “Classic Getaway didn't fulfil potential last year, but to see him put his head down today and gallop to the line was nice.”
Owned by Cheveley Park Stud, Classic Getaway was bred by Daniel Fogarty.
