Classy Camelot Fillies On Song On Saturday

Music Piece (2f Camelot – Melodious, by Cape Cross) completed the first leg of a smart Saturday double for Camelot when winning what looked a competitive fillies’ novice stakes at Haydock.

The Andrew Balding-trained filly was slowly away on debut at Ascot, but impressed when finishing well to take second behind Ballydoyle’s more experienced Ballet Slippers. That performance saw Mrs Doreen Tabor’s homebred sent off second favourite on Saturday, with the market headed by debut winner Consent, who holds an entry in the Fillies Mile.

Music Piece took close order from an early stage in the mile contest and made headway to challenge before the two furlong pole. Improving to lead a furlong out, she idled when clear under David Probert, while the favourite kept on to finish half a length back in second.

Later that day at Ripon, the Karl Burke-trained Lady La Fay (3f Camelot – Ajaadat, by Shamardal) proved a cut above her rivals in the novice stakes over a mile and a half.

Newton Anner Stud’s homebred was sent off second-favourite following two placed efforts and made all of the running under Sam James. The daughter of Camelot was travelling well when clear three furlongs from home and needed little encouragement to lead by eight lengths on the line.
