Classy Camelot Filly Quickens Clear At Deauville
Penja (3f Camelot - Just With You, by Sunday Break) produced a smart front-running performance to win the Prix Dumka, a conditions race for three-year-old fillies at Deauville on Wednesday.
A close second on debut last September, Jean-Claude Rouget’s charge won her next start by three lengths and stepped up to ten furlongs on reappearance. The bay made all under Cristian Demuro, quickening into the straight and was never headed, as he ran on strongly to win by three lengths. Roman Bamb (Holy Roman Emperor) kept on for second ahead of debut winner Any Time Soon (Camelot) in third.
Penja is clearly held in high regard by connections, given that she holds entries in the Prix Saint-Alary and Prix de Diane. The daughter of Camelot was bought for €90,000 as a yearling by Rouget, who owns her with Daniel-Yves Treves, Laurent Dassault and Ecurie B Weill. A half-sister to Listed winning stablemate Taos, she was bred by SCEA Des Prairies with B and T Jeffroy.
