Listentoyourheart Wins The Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle At Newbury

Classy Getaway Mare Extends Unbeaten Record Over Hurdles

Black-type performer Listentoyourheart (5m Getaway – Illwalktheline, by Presenting) made it two from two over hurdles when running out an impressive winner of the Class 2 Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Newbury.

The winner of a bumper and twice Listed-placed last season, Dan Skelton’s charge appeared even better over hurdles, as she bolted up by 21 lengths on her seasonal return. She was sent off favourite to follow up on Thursday and raced in second for much of the way under Harry Skelton. Shaken up to lead before the final flight, she drew clear on the run-in to score by eight lengths.

“She’s a lovely mare with a good attitude for it,” said the winning trainer. “I’d have thought she’ll come back for the Listed race here as long as the ground isn’t too soft, but she’s progressive and we’ll keep pitching.”

Owned by ST Racing and bred by GCE Bloodstock, Listentoyourheart provides an important update for her half-brother by In Swoop, which is catalogued in the upcoming November NH Sale at Tattersalls Ireland.
