Cracking Camelot Colt Tops Day 2 Of Goffs Foal Sale

An outstanding son of Camelot topped a second day of phenomenal trade at the Goffs November Foal Sale when selling to Camas Park Stud for €170,000.

The reputations of underbidder Michael Fitzpatrick and successful buyer Timmy Hyde paid compliment to the Airlie Stud homebred, who shares his page with champion stayer Kew Gardens (Galileo). After confirming his purchase would be offered for resale next year, Timmy Hyde commented, “He's a lovely horse with a lovely pedigree, it's a proper family. We've been lucky with the sire before. Hopefully he'll be another Russian Camelot.”

Airlie Stud’s Anthony Rogers was delighted with the result and said, “He's very straightforward with a beautiful temperament and is by a very good sire.”

Stanley Lodge was another consignor who reaped the rewards of Camelot’s popularity when selling the first foal out of Lady Magdala for €120,000. Aughamore Stud, which is run by brothers Michael and Laurence Gleeson in County Westmeath, paired up with Howson and Houldsworth to secure the colt, which was bred by John Kennedy out of a half-sister to Group 2 performer Camphor (Camelot).

“We're big fans of the stallion and we thought this was an outstanding individual,” Michael Gleeson said of their purchase. “He comes from a good home at Stanley Lodge too; we got a good result with a Mastercraftsman we bought off them last year.”
