Crystal Ocean Colt Brings Six Figures

A colt from the first crop of Crystal Ocean became the highest-priced foal of the week so far at Tattersalls Ireland when selling to Kevin Ross and Ben Case for €120,000.

After fending off bids from interested parties, Ben Case said, “He’s a lovely foal with lots of size and scope, and he has a great pedigree. We felt this colt stood out today and we are delighted to get him. He will come back for resale as a three-year-old.”

The bay colt produced an impressive return for Coolmara Stables, who purchased his dam for €47,000 in 2017. The daughter of Mahler is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Airlie Beach and hails from the family of Black Tears.

Beeches Stud resident Crystal Ocean has made a strong impression with his first foals, with a pair of colts fetching €80,000 apiece the previous day, when his stock boasted an average price of €44,385.
