A.P.'s Secret (Cupid) winning Gulfstream Msw

Cupid’s A.P.’s Secret Lives Up to Hype in Debut

The red-hot Cupid registered his third winner in a week on Saturday when A.P.’s Secret (2c Cupid x Afleet Honey, by Uncle Mo) broke his maiden on debut by four lengths.

Racing in a seven furlong Gulfstream Park Maiden Special Weight, A.P.’s Secret broke from one of the widest gates but quickly made his way to the two path. As the horses settled into rhythm, he put himself just outside a horse as they galloped a length behind the dueling leaders.

Edgard Zayas asked the race favorite to engage the leaders around the turn and A.P.’s Secret took only a few strides to join the front runners.

Those two horses faded away as another horse poured the pressure on but A.P.’s Secret relished the challenge and started to pull away as they passed the final furlong marker. He continued in that extended gear to win by four lengths for owner Gentry Farms and trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. with only two horses within eight lengths of him at the end.

A $150,000 2-year-old purchase from De Meric Sales by his racing owner earlier this year, A.P.’s Secret had registered bullets in his last two works before his debut to catch the eye of bettors.

Hailing from Tami Bobo’s winning Uncle Mo mare Afleet Honey, A.P.’s Secret is a half-brother to the stakes placed Flying Aletha and a grandson of multiple stakes winner and multiple graded stakes placed Afleet Deceit.

Cupid’s 14 winners is tied with Classic Empire with the Grade I winning Tapit son also having two stakes winners and three stakes performers.
