Millisle (Starspangledbanner) winning the Gr.1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket

Daughter Of Starspangledbanner Rated European Champion 2YO Filly

Millisle (Starspangledbanner) who mowed down Queen Mary Stakes-Gr.2 and Duchess of Cambridge Stakes-Gr.2 winner Raffle Prize to win the Cheveley Park Stakes-Gr.1 has been ranked European Champion 2-Year-Old Filly of 2019 on a mark of 115. The speedy chestnut is trained by Jessica Harrington for owner/breeders Stonethorne Stud Farms and rates an exciting classic prospect for 2020.

Mark Bird, IHRB Handicapper commented “Millisle’s victory at Newmarket, when she defeated three Group 2 and two Group 3 winners, was the most substantive piece of form produced by any two-year-old filly in Europe in 2019. She deservedly emerges as Champion in the division following in the footsteps of a long list of fillies, including Marling, Queen’s Logic, Tiggy Wiggy and Clemmie, who were all crowned Champion two-year-old filly after winning this race.”

Rated just behind her on a mark of 114, and also trained by Jessica Harrington, is Albigna (Zoffany) who finished very strongly to bound clear of her eight rivals in the Prix Marcel Boussac-Gr.1. Like her stablemate Millisle, the Niarchos Family owned and bred Albigna looks a leading classic filly for the coming season.

Another highly rated filly with obvious Classic potential from the Jessica Harrington yard is Cayenne Pepper (Australia) owned by Jon Kelly. Unbeaten in her first three starts including an impressive victory in the Flame Of Tara Stakes-Gr.3, she was an eyecatcher in the Fillies’ Mile-Gr.1, finishing strongly to take fourth despite not handling the dip.
