Desert Isle Brings $1.1 Million In Foal to American Pharoah

Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa and Determined Stud partnered to buy Desert Isle, in foal to American Pharoah, on Sunday for $1.1 million at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale.

Consigned by Sam-Son Farm, the mare visited American Pharoah on February 15 for her first foal. The mare is a fourth generation Sam-Son-bred from the legendary program and herself is a stakes winning Bernardini daughter.

As to be expected from Sam-Son, the mare is one of four stakes winners out of her Canadian champion dam Eye of the Sphynx alongside Canadian champion and classic winner Eye of the Leopard, Grade III winner Deceptive Vision, and stakes winner Hotep.

The foal Desert Isle is carrying saw a few big updates in the 24 hours before the mare went through the ring with an A.P. Indy granddaughter seeing American Pharoah’s Merneith win the Listed Fort Springs Stakes 24 hours before American Pharoah juvenile Royal Mission broke her maiden.

The leading sire of his generation, Triple Crown winner American Pharoah is the sire of 12 stakes winners and eight graded stakes winners led by Grade I winners Harvey’s Lil Goil and Van Gogh.
