The Getaway Star (Getaway) winning the mares bumper at Cork

Exciting Getaway Mare Makes It Two From Two

The Getaway Star (4f Getaway - Tucacas, by Highest Honor) made it two from two when denying the short-priced favourite in the mares bumper at Cork on Sunday.

The Declan Queally-trained mare impressed on debut in April when running out an eight and a half length winner over two and a half miles, but faced a drop down in trip to two miles on her seasonal return. She jumped to lead under EP O’Brien but was forced to drop to second after four furlongs and was ridden to regain the advantage inside the final furlong. Staying on well, she held off the market leader Getaway Gorgeous (Getaway) by two lengths and three quarters on the line.

Declan Queally Jnr later revealed there is further improvement to come from the winner, commenting, “She'll improve a lot from this. Today was a prep race for the Listed Aries Girl Mares' Bumper at Navan in three weeks time - this is a bonus. She's a good mare. She's a brilliant jumper but we'll stay in bumpers for the season.”

The Getaway Star is owned by Michael O’Callaghan and was bred by John Harvey. A half-sister to winners Ixora (Milan) and Oscar Star (Oscar), she is out of the Listed-placed Tucacas, herself a half-sister to four black-type horses.
