Getaway Mare Digs Deep For Maiden Hurdle Win
Roxhill Roise (6m Getaway – Bellavic, by Old Vic) produced a game performance to record her first win under rules at Tramore on Sunday.
The David O’Brien-trained bay was the sole mare to contest the maiden hurdle over two miles and five furlongs, but had finished a fine second against geldings in February. Ridden prominently by Danny Gilligan, she rallied into second at the penultimate flight and dug deep on the run-in to win by half a length.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “She will make a lovely chaser and I'm delighted for her owners.”
The daughter of Grange Stud sire Getaway was bred by Mr PP Greaney.
