Falconet Secures Second Stakes Win in Top Flight
Falconet (4f Uncle Mo x Birdatthewire, by Summer Bird) registered her second stakes victory of the year on Sunday with a win in the Listed Top Flight Stakes at Aqueduct.
Sent out to contest 1 1/8 miles on the dirt, the Todd Pletcher trainee shadowed the pacesetter in second just over a length behind that runner. Starting to add on pressure late in the backstretch, Falconet worked her way to the lead in the far turn and was even with the other runner at the top of the stretch.
The filly had to fight for much of the late run but started to build her margin in the final sixteenth for a 2 ¼ length win for trainer Todd Pletcher.
Owned by China Horse Club and WinStar Farm, Falconet was also bred by WinStar and was earning her fourth win in nine career starts with just one finish outside the top two.
Falconet is the first runner out of Grade I winner Birdatthewire, who is out of the stakes winning My Limit. Birdatthewire is one of two stakes producers for her dam alongside the dam of stakes winning Miss Conveyance.
Uncle Mo’s seven stakes winners this year is the second best of any North American sire and he’s tied as the leader of Grade I winners in 2023 as well.
