Finite (Munnings) wins the Listed Rags to Riches Stakes at Churchill Downs

Finite Wins Rags to Riches For Munnings

Finite (2f Munnings x Remit, by Tapit) became the second 2-year-old stakes winner of the weekend for star stallion Munnings as she added a first stakes victory to her resume with a brilliant showing in the Listed Rags to Riches Stakes at Churchill Downs to crush the previous stakes record in the race when stopping the clock in 1:35.53.

Running over one mile on the dirt, Finite put pressure on the leader throughout with solid early fractions. Jockey Ricardo Santana Jr. sat chilly on the Steve Asmussen-trained filly around the turn and the filly took over the lead at the top of the stretch without any urging. When Santana Jr asked her to run, the filly didn’t hesitate and pulled away to win by six lengths for owners Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC, Thomas Reiman, William Dickson and Deborah Easter.

“She definitely passed the test today stretching out in distance,” Asmussen said. “She’s a very quality filly and had a nice win at Kentucky Downs coming into this race. The Golden Rod is definitely the right race for her after this type of performance so it was encouraging to see her stretch out.”

A $200,000 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Two-Year-Olds in Training purchase earlier this year by Debbie Eastre from Randy Miles’ consignment, Finite is one of 23 2-year-old winners for Munnings this year.

The Winchell Thoroughbreds-bred filly is out of Listed winner Remit, making her a half-sister to Listed stakes winner Reride. Remit herself is a full sister to multiple graded stakes winner Tapiture, Grade III winner Rotation, and Listed winner Retap. This is also the extended family of Japanese champion Fusaichi Richard.

Munnings has the second most two-year-old winners of any sire this year with 23, including three 2-year-old stakes winners, headed by Breeders’ Cup hopeful Kimari.
