Sporting John (Getaway) Leads Home A 1 2 For Getaway At Borris House

Getaway 1-2 In Strong Four-Year-Old Maiden

Sporting John (4g Getaway - Wild Spell, by Oscar) led home a 1-2 for his Grange Stud sire in what looked like a very competitive four-year-old maiden at Borris House on Sunday.

Ridden in mid-division by Jimmy O’Rourke, the Matthew Flynn O’Connor trained gelding progressed into second at the third last fence and led from the final fence, showing a good turn of foot on rain-softened ground. Crossing the line in the fastest time of the day, Sporting John beat the Denis Murphy-trained newcomer Generation Text (Getaway) by two and a half lengths.

The winner will now presumably head for the sales ring to make a profit on his store sale price of €33,000 at the Goffs Land Rover Sale, where he was sold by Glenwood Stud and bought by M Doyle. Bred by Stephanie Hanly, his dam is closely related to the top-class Oscar Whisky (Oscar).
