Glan (Getaway) Wins The Bumper At Kilbeggan

Getaway Mare Beats The Boys With Bumper Win

The Gordon Elliott-trained Glan (5m Getaway - Fleur, by Perugino) gained her first career success when justifying favoritism in Friday’s bumper at Kilbeggan.

Making her second start under Jamie Codd, the chesnut raced in mid-division for much of the two mile contest and took closer order from four furlongs out. Improving into second with two furlongs left to race, she kept on well under hands and heels to lead close home. The winning margin was a length and three quarters, with the front pair drawing nine lengths clear of the third.

On future plans, Gordon Elliott later commented, “She will probably go to Down Royal in a few weeks for a mares’ winners bumper.”

Owned by Mrs Ann Marie McManus, Glan was bred by Kieran McManus out of a black-type half-sister to dual Grade 1 winner Foreman.
