Quiet Escape (Getaway) Wins Her Bumper At Downpatrick

Getaway Mare Digs Deep For Maiden Victory

Monday saw the well-supported Quiet Escape (6m Getaway - Ballinahattna Girl, by Oscar) make a winning start for Mark Molloy in the bumper at Downpatrick.

A promising fourth at Clonmel earlier this season, John Wade’s homebred was the sole mare to line up in the two miles and three furlong contest. Jody Townend rode the chesnut to chase the leaders and led from five furlongs out, pushing her along from the two furlong pole. Keeping on strongly when challenged, she score by a length and a quarter, with the front pair drawing 15 lengths clear of the field.

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “Colm [Murphy] always loved Quiet Escape but it didn't happen. She has schooled well and can go jumping hurdles.”
