Getaway Mare Strikes Late For Maiden Hurdle Win

The Denise O’Shea-trained Getaway Glenda (5m Getaway - Dangan Juliet, by Bandari) stayed on well to take the Mares Maiden Hurdle at Tramore on Saturday evening.

Darragh O’Keeffe took the ride following Sean Flanagan’s fall the previous day and positioned his mount in midfield for much of the two mile contest. Making good headway to take third at the final flight, she stayed on strongly to lead close home and won by a length from the well-supported Sani Pass, with another length and three quarters back to the favourite in third.

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “She is a nice mare and worked like a nice mare at home, but I just thought she wasn't experienced enough.

Owned by Gerard O’Leary and bred by Tom Mellerick, Getaway Glenda becomes the first winner out of Dangan Juliet.
