Degraves (Camelot) winning the Gr.3 Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown

Group 3 Victory Continues Fine Run For Camelot

Camelot’s fine run continued on Saturday when the progressive Degraves (2c Camelot - Daganya, by Danehill) took the Group 3 Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown.

A taking maiden winner last time out over a mile, the Joseph O’Brien-trained bay was sent off second-favourite for his step up to nine furlongs. Shane Crosse rode him to chase the leaders and was travelling well at the three furlong pole, from which he improved to lead approaching the final furlong. Ridden clear, he held on by half a length on the line as Persia (Galileo) produced a late challenge.

Owned by Williams, Gudinski and Ateam Syndicate, Degraves was bred by Longueville Bloodstock and Matrix Bloodstock. A 92,000gns yearling purchase by his young trainer, he becomes the 13th individual Group winner by Camelot, three of whom are Group 1 winners.

Camelot himself excelled at the end of his juvenile season, extending his unbeaten record when taking the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy and went on to complete a hat-trick of Group 1 wins as a three-year-old.
