Impressive Group 2 Success Adds To Terrific Weekend For Australia
Cayenne Pepper (3f Australia - Muwakaba, by Elusive Quality) continued a terrific weekend for Coolmore sire Australia when racing clear to win the Group 2 Blandford Stakes on Irish Champions Weekend.
Dual Derby hero Australia celebrated his first Group 1 winner on Saturday, when Galileo Chrome took the St Leger at Doncaster and Cayenne Pepper looked sure to soon add to his record, having finished second in both the Irish 1,000 Guineas and Irish Oaks earlier in the season.
Dropping back to ten furlongs on Sunday, the Jessica Harrington-trained chesnut tracked the leader under Shane Foley and was pushed along to lead approaching the final furlong. Ridden clear inside the final furlong, she won by four lengths with ease, as Amma Grace (Galileo) claimed runners-up honours.
Shane Foley later described Cayenne Pepper as “a filly I’ve always thought a lot of”, and guided her to Group 3 success as a two-year-old. Owned by Sarah Kelly, the 195,000gns foal buy was bred by GHS Bloodstock and JC Bloodstock.
From the second crop of Australia, Cayenne Pepper is one of nine individual Group winners by the son of Galileo.
