Phoenix Cowboy (Gleneagles) Wins His Maiden At Ballinrobe

Improving Son Of Gleneagles Scores On Return

The promising Phoenix Cowboy (4g Gleneagles - Unbelievable, by Fastnet Rock) made a winning seasonal return in the Paddy Smyth Memorial Maiden at Ballinrobe on Monday evening.

Third and fourth on all his starts last season, the Ger Lyons-trained bay tracked the leaders under Sam Ewing and produced a challenge two furlongs from home. Leading entering the final furlong, he kept on well to win by half a length, with a further four and a half lengths back to the third horse.

Owned by Mark Breen, the €260,000 yearling purchase was bred by SF Bloodstock and Matthew Sandblom. The son of in-form sire Gleneagles is out of a close relation to Peeping Fawn (Danehill).
