Late September Registers Second Stakes Victory
It was another stakes victory for Late September (2c Munnings x Hello Maggie May, by Lemon Drop Kid) on Saturday in the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile Stakes.
The Jose Camejo runner broke well in the six-furlong dirt race and quickly poured the pressure on a horse who dared to go to the front before him. It didn’t take long for the other runner to bow out and Late September kicked clear from the rest of the field at the quarter pole.
Late September had four lengths in hand going into the final furlong and only one horse was able to eat into that in any way going to the line. At the end, Late September still had 2 ¼ lengths on that runner with the rest of the field over six lengths back.
Owned by Kevin Stedman, Late September now has two stakes victories and a stakes third to his name.
Late September is one of two stakes performers for his multiple stakes winning dam Hello Maggie May alongside Grade III-placed Mallory. Hello Maggie May is one of three stakes performers for her own Canadian champion dam Fantasy Lake with four of her sisters also producing stakes performers.
Munnings’ 15 stakes winners is second only to Into Mischief with the stallion also having 28 stakes performers and six graded stakes winners, led by his multiple Grade I winning son Jack Christopher.
