Lucky Betty Newest Winner For Munnings
Lucky Betty (3f Munnings x Cherokee Beads, by Street Sense) became Munnings' newest winner on Saturday when romping in a Maiden Special Weight at Oaklawn Park.
Running over 1 1/16 miles, Lucky Betty raced on the rail just behind the leader from the start. Galloping comfortably with Declan Cannon aboard, the filly waited until the field entered the far turn to stick her head in front and built her margin from there.
By the time they turned into the stretch, she already had a few lengths on her rivals and pulled away to win by 3 1/4 lengths at the wire for trainer William VanMeter.
A $145,000 Keeneland September yearling, the filly was purchased from Warrendale Sales by Taproot Bloodstock and is owned by Dennis Park. The only foal of four-time winner Cherokee Beads, Lucky Betty was bred by TK Stables LLC and out of a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Bayerd from the family of Grade I winner Family Enterprize.
Continuing his 2019 success, Munnings is set for another banner year with 44 winners in 2020 including nine stakes horses and six stakes winners led by Grade II winners and Grade I Kentucky Oaks hopefuls Finite, Bonny South, and Venetian Harbor.
