One of 16 to line up for the ten and a half furlong contest, she in mid-division for much of the way and quickened on the outer to challenge in the straight. Running on well under Stephane Breux, she got up to deny the favourite by a head on the line.
Bred by Gestut Ebbesloh, the daughter of Camelot cost €90,000 as a yearling and is owned by Ecurie D’Authuit and Ecurie De Montlahuc. She becomes the third winner out of Listed winner and German 1,000 Guineas runner-up Wolkenburg.
Later that day at Gulfstream, the well-bred Pechanga (3f Camelot – High Fidelity, by Peintre Celebre) gained a maiden victory in the colours of Robert Masterson. Ridden by Hector Berrios, the Mark Casse-trained bay was forced to bide her time in the straight, but quickened once a gap appeared to win by half a length on the line.
A €200,000 Arqana yearling purchase, Pechanga was bred by Lynch Bages and Camas Park Stud out of a half-sister to the top-class Hurricane Run. A full-brother to Pechanga was sold to Japanese interests for €650,000 at last year’s yearling sales and has been named Matenro Ventus.
