Mo Town Filly Adds G2 To Resume in Charles Town Oaks
Mo Town’s Mystic Lake (3f Mo Town x Salty Soul, by Itsmyluckyday) was back in the winner’s circle under the Charles Town lights on Friday night when the filly won the Grade II Charles Town Oaks.
A consistent runner in stakes this year, Mystic Lake lined up in this seven-furlong race after running second in a Grade III last out. The filly took up the job of pressuring the pacesetter, running close behind her for much of the early running.
Mystic Lake made a big move around the final turn to take the lead and had control by the time the field entered the early stretch. It was clear Mystic Lake was much the best as she rolled to an easy 5 ¾ length victory in the end.
Trained by Saffie Joseph Jr for C2 Racing and Stefania Farms, Mystic Lake now has five wins and four other top three finishes in 11 starts for $758,554 in earnings. Included in that are eight stakes placings, led by four stakes victories.
Bred by Peggy Costanzo, Mystic Lake was a $130,000 2-year-old purchase last year. She was thought so highly of by her connections that she RNA’ed for $370,000 in a digital sale earlier this year.
The filly is a granddaughter of the 23-time winner and stakes placed Pyramyst, who produced four winners from four to race. Pyramyst’s dam produced three stakes performers, led by the stakes winning Storm Tale.
A major value sire, Mo Town is the sire of four stakes winners and 10 stakes performers in 2024, led by two graded stakes winners.
