Irwin (Australia) Wins His Maiden At Dundalk

More To Come From Progressive Australia Colt

Shane Crosse revealed that the best is yet to come from Irwin (3c Australia - Sugar House, by Distorted Humour) after partnering the improving colt to his maiden success at Dundalk on Friday evening.

A close third over course and distance of a mile last month, the Joseph O’Brien-trained colt was sent off favourite and raced towards the back of the field for much of the way. Pushed to make headway from over two furlongs out, he led approaching the final furlong and ran on gamely to deny Razdan (Zoffany) by a head on the line.

Speaking after the race, Crosse said, “He's a lovely big horse and he's very raw still. Once he gets to the grass, he'll improve away and should learn plenty from today to step forward again. He's by Australia so we'd be hoping he'd get further.”

Owned by the EuroLindy Syndicate, Irwin was bred by China Horse Club International.
