Boldor (Munnings) Wins The 2021 Punch Line Stakes at Colonial Downs

Munnings’ Boldor Makes Easy Work of Punch Line

Boldor (6g Munnings x Senate Caucus, by Siphon) returned to the Punch Line Stakes winner’s circle on Wednesday with a 2 ½ length victory at Colonial Downs.

Entered in the 5 ½ turf dash by trainer Steve Asmussen for Ed and Susie Orr, Boldor had two horses beat out of the gate but was galloping comfortably under Feargal Lynch.

As they entered the stretch, Boldor was swung wide to have clear running in front of him and that was all he needed to show why he was a heavy favorite. He took the lead by the time they entered the final sixteenth and it was easy sailing from there as he cruised home with no serious challenges.

It was the second Punch Line victory for Boldor, who also won the race by an easy three lengths with the same jockey aboard in 2019. In all, Boldor has won four stakes races among his six victories in 20 starts for more than $426,000 in earnings.

Bred by Carlos Moore and Gillian Gordon-Moore, Boldor was purchased by the Orrs for $700,000 as a 2-year-old from the Randy Miles consignment at OBS April.

Boldor is one of three stakes performers for three-time winner Senate Caucus, who also produced stakes placed runners Fly E Dubai and Avarice with a fourth runner among her eight winners placing fourth in a stakes. Senate Caucus is also proving to have success as a producer of producers with her daughter Scrub Island the dam of stakes winner Sprezzatura.

Boldor’s granddam Hong Kong Jade is also the granddam of champion Summer Bird and great-granddam of stakes winner I Get It. The mare is also a half-sister to three-time Grade I winner Rubiano and stakes winner Tap Your Heels – who produced Grade I winner and Champion Sire Tapit. The family also includes Grade II winners Dubleo and Madefromlucky among a page full of stakes winners and performers.

Senate Caucus returned to Munnings in 2019 to foal a colt last year with that colt sold to Mike Pegram as a weanling. The full brother to Boldor is set to go through the ring as part of the Four Star Sales draft at the upcoming Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
