Munnings Kicks Off 2021 Sales With Session Topper

It was a successful first day of the Keeneland January sale for Munnings when the stallion sired the session topper, a $475,000 colt purchased by OXO Equine.

Offered by Hunter Valley Farm, the chestnut colt out of the stakes winning Sea Shadow is also a half-brother to stakes-placed Rising Seas. Also from the family of champions Dixie Wave and Natri, the Ben and John Colebrook-bred is bred on the same Munnings x A.P. Indy granddaughter cross as four stakes horses – including Munnings’ stakes winning Please Flatter Me and Cool Shadows.

“He was a lovely horse,” said Hunter Valley’s Adrian Regan. “We’ve been breeding to Munnings all the way (since his stud fee was at its lowest). We’ve bred to him almost every year. But in the last 12 months, every Saturday he’s had a stakes winner around the country and I think the market has really clicked to how good a sire he is. He’s a fantastic sire.”

Munnings was also the covering sire of the sixth most expensive broodmare when Show Me The Carats sold for $160,000 to Crawford Farms. Consigned by St George Sales, the More Than Ready mare is the dam of stakes winner Evaluator and three other winners from four to race. She is carrying to Munnings on a February 28th cover.

Munnings has had an exceptional start to 2021 with three stakes winners and four stakes horses in the first 10 days of the year to follow up the 12 stakes winners and 21 stakes performers he sired in 2020.
