Nothing Better (Munnings) Wins Rainbow Heir Stakes at Monmouth Park

Nothing Better Newest Stakes Winner for Munnings

Munnings registered a new stakes winner on Sunday when Nothing Better (5g Munnings x One True Love, by Duke of Marmalade) won the Rainbow Heir Stakes.

The gelding immediately entered a duel for the lead in the 5 ½ furlong turf race, swapping the lead with his rival until they hit the stretch. The lead swapped for the final time when his head was put in front and he started to pull away from there.

The final sixteenth was where he shined on that front, building the margin to two lengths at the end for his second win of 2022 and fifth overall.

The 5-year-old is trained by Jorge Duarte Jr. for Colts Neck Stables, who purchased him as a 2-year-old for $230,000 as a 2-year-old. Nothing Better was bred by Don Alberto Corp out of the winning Duke of Marmalade mare One True Love. That mare is a half-sister to Grade I winner Folk Opera, who also is the granddam of Hong Kong champion Romantic Warrior and Group I winner Mr Bailetti.

With 13 stakes winners in 2022, Munnings is second among all U.S. sires and has 132 less runners than the horse at the top of the list.
