Progressive Son Of Australia Records Third Juvenile Win

Benacre (2c Australia - Sent From Heaven, by Footstepsinthesand) maintained an upward curve to record his third career success at Goodwood on Sunday.

A smart winner on debut in June, Charlie and Mark Johnston’s charge justified favouritism at Epsom last month and was well-supported in Sunday’s seven furlong contest. Ridden prominently by William Buick, they bay was asked to quicken from three furlongs out and was pushed to challenge a furlong later. In front before the final furlong, he kept on strongly to win by two lengths and three quarters.

Owned by Susan and John Waterworth, Benacre is a full-brother to Stakes performer Almania (Australia). The sons of Australia were bred by COP Hanbury out of his homebred Group 3 winner Sent From Heaven (Footstepsinthesand), who was beaten less than a length in the 1,000 Guineas won by Jacqueline Quest (Rock Of Gibraltar).
