Red-Hot Cupid Registers 22nd Winner
It was a second new winner in just over 12 hours for Cupid on Friday when Fleche d'Amour (2f Cupid x Sassy City, by Macho Uno) justified her favoritism with a maiden win at Gulfstream Park.
In a tightly packed field going a mile on the dirt, Fleche d’Amour was never more than a few lengths off the leader at any stage. Jockey Romero Maragh piloted the gray wide as they raced into the turn and she started making her bid.
Fleche d’Amour took command in the stretch and steadily pulled away from there to secure the win by 2 ½ lengths with the third place finisher nearly five lengths behind.
Trained and co-owned by Patrick Biancone with Sanford Bacon, Fleche d’Amour was bred by Eico Ventures in Kentucky.
The filly is one of two winners out of Grade III-placed Sassy City, who is one of three stakes performers for her own dam.
Cupid now has 22 winners with his winners earning nine victories since the beginning of November, led by a Grade III.
