Saxon Warrior Juvenile Storms Home To Debut Win

Surpass (2c Saxon Warrior – Blending, by Medicean) shaped like a smart prospect when justifying favouritism in Wednesday’s seven furlong maiden at Tipperary.

Racing at the back of the field under Ryan Moore, he was asked to quicken turning for home and began to run on strongly from two furlongs out. He showed a good turn of foot to pick off his rivals one-by-one, leading by a neck on the line, with another two lengths and three quarters back to the third horse.

“Surpass is a work in progress,” Ballydoyle representative Chris Amrstrong said after the race. “He's still very babyish and when he puts it all together he has the makings of a lovely horse. He could go for a race like the Tyros Stakes now.”

Armstrong continued, “While we don't have many Saxon Warriors, the ones we have are very nice and the sire is having a good run of it at the moment.”

Owned by Coolmore partners, Surpass was bought by Camas Park Stud as a foal for 240,000gns. The third crop son of Saxon Warrior was bred by James Wigan out of a half-sister to Group 3 performer Ricetta (Camelot).
