Smart Gleneagles Colt Goes One Better In Maiden
Thursday saw the Mark Johnston-trained Kehailaan (3c Gleneagles - Defrost My Heart, by Fastnet Rock) gain a deserved maiden victory, having finished second on both his previous starts.
Reunited with Ben Curtis, the bay was sent off favourite for Southwell’s mile maiden and chased the leaders for much of the way. Ridden to lead two furlongs from home, he stayed on well to win by two and a quarter lengths.
Bought by Johnston as a yearling for €75,000, the son of Gleneagles was bred by Fair Salina out of the black-type Fastnet Rock mare Defrost My Heart. MV Magnier purchased an Australia brother to Kehailaan for 135,000gns in October.
