Point Lonsdale (Australia) Wins The Group 3 Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown

Son Of Australia Adds Tyros Stakes To Perfect Record

The exciting Point Lonsdale (2c Australia - Sweepstake, by Acclamation) extended his unbeaten record when leading home a 1-2-3 for Coolmore sires in Thursday’s Group 3 Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown.

The full-brother to Broome (Australia) made an impressive debut at the Curragh last month and followed up in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot. Racing over seven furlongs once again on Thursday, the Aidan O’Brien-trained bay chased the leaders under Ryan Moore and was pushed along to lead from two furlongs out.

Ridden to go clear approaching the final furlong, he stayed on strongly to win by three lengths. Maritime Wings (Gleneagles) came from last to claim runners-up honours, while Unconquerable (Churchill) took third.

“He'll probably go to the Futurity next,” O’Brien said after training his eighth consecutive winner of the Tyros Stakes. “It was nice for him to get a lead there and he would have learned a bit more today. He's lovely and low and his head goes down.”

Bred by Epona Bloodstock, Point Lonsdale is owned by Derrick Smith, Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Westerberg. The 575,000gns yearling purchase becomes a seventh individual Group winner this season alone by Australia.
