Cape Bridgewater (Australia) Wins His Maiden At Tipperary

Son Of Australia Battles Back For Maiden Victory

Cape Bridgewater (3c Australia - Itqaan, by Danzig) battled back to gain a deserved win in Tuesday’s mile and a half maiden at Tipperary.

Aidan O’Brien’s charge had finished second on two previous occasions and was racing over a mile and a half for the first time on Tuesday. Racing prominently throughout under Wayne Lordan, the bay was ridden when challenged approaching the two furlong marker and was soon headed. Battling back under pressure, he regained the advantage inside the final furlong and ran on well to score by two and a quarter lengths.

“Wayne gave him a lovely ride from the front,” Ballydoyle’s representative said after the race. “He had a couple of good runs in maidens already and he appreciated the step up in trip. He is a horse who stays very well and is typical of Australia - very genuine.”

Bred by Whisperview Trading, Cape Bridgewater is owned by O’Brien, Westerberg and Coolmore partners.
