King Carney (Australia) Wins The Listed Silver Tankard Stakes at Pontefract

Son Of Australia Enters Derby Picture

King Carney (2c Australia - Petit Trianon, by Dansili) entered the Epsom Derby picture when taking Monday’s Listed Silver Tankard Stakes at Pontefract.

A maiden winner last time out, he was ridden to make all by Danny Tudhope, who guided him wide in the straight in search of better ground. Driven out inside the final furlong, he ran on to hold off the favourite Wyclif by three parts of a length.

Speaking after the race, winning trainer Charlie Fellows commented, “King Carney could be a lovely horse next year, he's going to be very exciting - a winter warmer! He'll probably go for a Derby trial in the spring and we'll take it from there.”

Owned by Mrs Susan Roy, King Carney was bought at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-up Sale for 145,000gns from Mayfield Stables. He was bred by Select Bloodstock and is the first foal out of the mare, a full-sister to Listed winner Preferential.
