Bangkok (Australia) Wins His Second Listed Winter Derby Trial at Lingfield

Son Of Australia Lands Back-To-Back Winter Derby Trials

Bangkok (5h Australia - Tanaghum, by Darshaan) returned to winning ways on Saturday, as he landed back-to-back runnings of the Listed Winter Derby Trial at Lingfield.

The Andrew Balding-trained entire was narrowly defeated on his two previous starts, including in another Listed contest over course and distance, and was sent off favourite to go one better at the weekend. He tracked the leaders under Ryan Moore, quickened as they turned for home and produced his challenge inside the final furlong. Running on well, he led inside the final 110 yards and won by half a length on the line.

The Saudi Cup is a possible target for Bangkok, whose international exploits include a fine second in the Qatar Derby. Owned by King Power Racing, the three-time Stakes winner was bred by Barronstown Stud, who sold him as a yearling for 500,000gns. He is one of five black-type performers out the mare Tanaghum and was one of 10 Group/Stakes winners by Australia in 2020, two of which triumphed at the highest level.
