Current Option (Camelot) Lands Back To Back Ahonoora Handicaps at the Galway Festival

Son Of Camelot Adds To Impressive Earnings At Galway

Sunday saw Current Option (5g Camelot - Coppertop, by Exceed And Excel) land back-to-back runnings of the valuable Ahonoora Handicap at the Galway Festival.

Tracking the leaders for much of the way, the Ado McGuinness-trained bay produced a challenge two furlongs from home and led entering the final furlong. Keeping on well under Cian MacRedmond, he scored by half a length from British raider On A Session.

The delighted winning trainer commented after the race, “I thought Current Option was the class horse in the race and I just love when Group horses come back into handicaps like that, and he has proved that he's a very good horse.”

Bred by Grangecon Holdings, Current Option has now won three premier handicaps and two Stakes races for owners Dooley Thoroughbreds, Shamrock Thoroughbreds and BT O’Sullivan.

Kirkland Lady (3f Camelot - Itqaan, by Danzig) completed a quickfire double for Camelot on the card when running out a clear winner of the mile and a half maiden.

Racing prominently under Dylan Browne McMonagle, the Joseph O’Brien-trained filly was ridden approaching the final furlong and kept on well to lead soon after. She scored by three and a quarter lengths, going away.

Owned by Rectory Road Holdings, Mrs John Magnier and Mrs Anne Marie O’Brien, Kirkland Lady was bred by Whisperview Trading.
