Current Option (Camelot) Wins The Ahonoora Handicap At Galway

Son Of Camelot Lands Valuable Prize At Galway Festival

Current Option (4g Camelot - Coppertop, by Exceed And Excel) once again provided connections with a valuable prize when landing Sunday’s €90,000 feature at Galway.

16 lined up for the Ahonoora Handicap over seven furlongs, with Gavin Ryan riding Adrian McGuinness’ charge towards the back of the field. Improving his position approaching the turn for home, the bay made headway outside the final furlong and stayed on strongly to win by a neck.

On future plans for the winner, Adrian McGuinness commented, “He'll probably go into stakes company now, he has won two premier handicaps now.”

Current Option has been trained by McGuinness since Shamrock Thoroughbreds purchased the son of Camelot for 85,000gns last July. Since then, he has won the Sovereign Path Handicap at Irish Champions Weekend, as well as finishing second in the Irish Cambridgeshire.

Bred by Grangecon Holdings, Current Option completed the first leg of a double on the card for sire Camelot, with Camphor (4f Camelot - Paraphernalia, by Dalakhani) later taking the JPK Fencing Race.

After riding the Jessica Harrington-trained filly to win by two lengths, Shane Foley said, “Camphor was good and was entitled to that. She loves that ground and she had course form. She's a good filly.”

Owned by OTI Racing and the Rollx Syndicate, Camphor has been placed at Listed and Group level on multiple occasions. Bred by Tullpark Ltd, the daughter of Camelot is one of two black-type performers out of the mare Paraphernalia.
