Quirt Evans (Getaway) Wins The Maiden Hurdle At Tramore

Son Of Getaway Enjoys Sweet Success

Quirt Evans (6g Getaway - Mae Mobley, by Saffron Walden) justified a quick return when running out a clear winner of Sunday’s maiden hurdle at Tramore.

Beaten a short head in a similar event on Friday, the David O’Brien-trained bay was sent off favourite under Sean Flanagan and chased the leaders for much of the way. Making headway from three out, he led before the penultimate flight and went clear approaching the final hurdle, going on to win by six lengths.

Speaking after the race, the delighted winning trainer said, “He always promised to be a nice horse. He will probably go for a novice now as he will probably be high enough in the handicap. He will probably go chasing towards the end of the summer as he jumps well and ran in a point-to-point.”

Owned by Aidan Fogarty, Quirt Evans was also placed in both his bumpers and finished third on his sole start between the flags. The son of Getaway was bred by Miss Elizabeth Kennedy out of a half-sister to Listed winner Wilde About Oscar (Oscar).
