Ira Hayes (Mahler) Wins The Maiden Hurdle At Carlisle

Son Of Mahler Impresses On Hurdle Bow

Ira Hayes (5g Mahler – Dangan Dawn, by Presenting) followed up last month’s smart bumper win with a wide-margin victory in Tuesday’s maiden hurdle at Carlisle.

John McConnell’s raider was sent off favourite under Ben Harvey and made all of the running on his hurdle bow over two and a half miles. Pushed along approaching the final flight, he went on to score by an easy 12 lengths.

The win brings Ira Hayes’ record to three wins from four career starts, his first success coming in a point-to-point on his sole start for Jack Teal. The son of Mahler is the first foal bred by Sean Hoare out of the mare Dangan Dawn.
