Son Of Maxios Makes Impressive Debut In Hot Contest

Whymper (3g Maxios - Wurfspiel, by Lomitas) emerged as an exciting prospect at Compiegne on Tuesday when drawing clear to win the first three-year-old hurdle of the year in France.

Hector De Lageneste and Guillaume Macaire’s charge travelled well throughout the €50,000 contest and asserted from halfway, going on to enter the straight full of running. Asked to quicken from the second last, the bay was ridden out from the final flight to score by seven lengths under Baptiste Le Clerc.

Quilixios (Maxios) made an impressive debut in the 2020 running of this race and went on to win his next four starts for new connections, including in two Grade 1 contests.

Both Quilixios and Whymper were bred by Gestut Fahrhof, with the latter noew owned by Ecurie Hugo and Pierre Pilarski, Palmyr Racing and Jeannot Andt. The son of Maxios is a half-brother to Grade 1 Man O’War Stakes victor Wake Forest, and hails from the family of Waldgeist (Galileo).
